The scent of evergreen boughs made it feel like Christmas at the November meeting of the Tweed and District Horticultural Society.
Members, Valerie Foran and Nancy Lessard shared a wealth of Christmas decorating ideas during the evening.
Some decorating ideas were as simple as adding evergreen and a holiday bow to a picture frame…instant decoration. Pine cones hung together with jute and a bow added…. instant decoration.
Baskets and various containers filled with greenery, berries and a bow add a festive feel to your home.
Several members assisted Valerie to create a gnome display for an outdoor decoration. Using a wooden base, a stick, different kinds of greenery, moss, grass blooms for the beard and a shiny red ball and you have a gnome to welcome family and friends to your home during the holiday season. Baskets and planters filled with greenery and lights look fabulous during the holiday season on a porch or walkway. Pieces of greenery tied together in small bundles and attached along jute make a beautiful swag for a railing…. a bit time consuming but well worth the effort required.
Most of their décor ideas used natural materials…branches of spruce, pine and cedar, berries, moss, milkweed pods, pine cones and hydrangea flowers. Small purchased materials were used to add a touch of colour. And living in a rural area, members are fortunate to have access to a wealth of natural materials to create Christmas décor for their homes.
Members certainly were inspired to start their Christmas decorating. Many thanks to Valerie and Nancy for a great evening packed with a wealth of Christmas ideas!
The AGM was held at the meeting. The Financial Report was presented and approved. The slate of officers for 2025 was presented and approved.

Tuesday December 3…Pot Luck Christmas Dinner at 6:00. Bring your favourite pot luck dish and dessert to celebrate the holiday season with your gardening friends. A slide show will highlight the many gardening events of 2024. And don’t forget your quarters to play Quarter Frenzy. Always fun to bid on many wonderful items. A fun evening for all!!!
